The applicator matters! What does the wand say about mascara?

What do you pay attention to when buying a new mascara? For many women the most important is the brush, because it highly influences the end effect. Check what the wand of the mascara can tell you!

It’s been proven that mascara is one of the few cosmetics that we buy without paying attention to its composition. The effects are more important and these are provided by a well-designed applicator. That is why it’s good to know what functions the different types of brushes have. Find out how they work before making the choice.

Vast array of choice

There is no single, universal mascara, although there are some that provide optimal effects. However, there is always someone who expects something different or their eyelashes’ needs do not correspond. It is because of our differences, contrasting requirements and needs, that so many types of wands have been created. Which one is the best?

Types of wands in mascaras

In general, mascaras are mainly divided into those with silicone and those with nylon brushes. Brushes with bristles are slowly becoming a thing of the past because silicone seems to be a better material – it is more flexible, does not irritate the skin and is hypoallergenic. The wands, however, can also be grouped on the basis of their size, shape and form. Here are the most popular ones:

  • Simple brush with bristles of the same length. As a rule, it is quite thin so as to fit different eye sizes. It works well if there is no need for too much volume and it’s only about delicate thickening, eyelash separation and lengthening. This is definitely a classic among applicators.
  • Very large and thick brush. It’s been created for women with large eyes and long lashes that need maximum thickening and volume. A larger wand means more mascara and more expressive effects, but also a higher risk of clumpy lashes.
  • Tapered brush. The wand that has pointed and larger ends works well for those with thin and sparse lashes. It’s easy to reach even the corners of the eyes without overloading the eyelashes with this kind of wand.
  • Curved brush. This type of a solution, in which a classic wand is curved is perfect for people who care about nicely curved eyelashes. This kind of applicator makes the application easier.
  • Small, ball brush. There is not many mascaras on the market with such a specific wand, because the application is quite.. difficult. It is not easy to switch to the ball brush, and the natural and delicate effects it gives are not worth the effort.
  • Brush narrowed at the ends. Mascaras with bristles of different lengths are definitely the best. The shorter ones at the end allow you to reach the smallest hairs at the corners of the eyes. The middle part gives volume, length and clarity.
  • Comb brush. Mascara with such a brush (actually a comb) is also a rarity. As a rule, we prefer brushes with bristles all around it because it is easier to use them. The drawback of this brush is that it only combs our eyelashes.
